A redundant farm byre has been converted into a contemporary, self-contained, annexe to the main house. The highly insulated open plan space is heated with a low energy Exhaust Air pump, whole house heat recovery and ventilation system, solar water panels and a wood-burning cooker. South facing windows and roof glazing allow heat from solar gain to be absorbed by the air pump and offer views into the garden. Careful design of this outbuilding has allowed maximum use of a small space.
