     barmagachan

Barmagachan is a B-listed two storey early eighteenth century laird's house overlooking the coastline of (Borness/Knockbrex). Over time, wings have been added to the structure; the latest 1970 addition created an enclosed courtyard and the works included alterations to the original house.

Our design simplified the building plan by demolishing the latest 1970 extension and reinstating the original building's principle facade. Internally, the circulation is clarified through the addition of small extensions in a contemporary language, with sympathetic design and scale. Works include the repair of the existing structure and upgrading of insulation levels and services to improve the building's energy efficiency.
